Respondent journeys

Create custom, logic-based activity paths for different participant segments.

Respondent journeys let you target different audiences more effectively, and give each audience an optimal experience, all within the same activity. This topic explains what the respondent journey options are and provides examples.

Note: Depending on the screen type, some respondent journey options may not be available:
  • Blank Screens and Statement Screens only allow the respondent journey to be set to End activity.
  • Call To Action screens only allow the respondent journey to be set to Redirect.
  • All other screen types allow either option.

Next screen

Direct participants to the next screen listed in the Activity Content area.

Example

In an activity about skincare, participants who answer one question about skincare tools proceed to the next question about serums.

Screen branching

Note: This option applies to Image Questions and Text Questions.

Customize the screens that participants see based on their question responses.

Example

In a Multiple Choice Text Question, you ask participants which fitness class they want to try, anticipating that most participants will select at least one class. For the few participants you anticipate will say "I don't want to try a class," you set up a screen branching rule to end the activity. You show all other participants a discount code for their next class.

Example

In an activity about meal kits, you use a Single Choice Text Question to ask participants which meal kit they have tried in the last 6 months. You set up screen branching rules so that each meal kit answer takes them to another screen asking about their satisfaction with that specific meal kit. For the participants who answer "I didn't use a meal kit," you end the activity.

Redirect

Redirect participants to a URL of your choice.

Example

In a Email Entry screen at the end of the activity, you ask participants to submit their email addresses to sign up for your newsletter, and then redirect participants to your company website.

End activity

Select this option if the screen you are editing is the final screen in a respondent journey. Participants who reach the end point of their respondent journeys are marked Complete for the activity.

Example

In a linear activity about TV viewing habits with no branching respondent journeys, you add a Thank You screen at the end. Participants who reach this screen and click the transition and submission button are marked Complete.
