Versioning in Touchpoint activities

Learn more about working with versions in Touchpoint activities.

Overview

Versioning allows you to update an activity by creating a new version of it, editing the new version, and then publishing it to make the updates live to participants immediately. Use versioning if you need to:

  • Make cosmetic updates to screens like fixing typos, updating images, or changing colors, fonts, and font sizes.
  • Update screen properties and settings.
  • Make changes that change the underlying data structure like adding or deleting screens, or updating respondent journey logic.
  • Edit one or two screens in an ongoing activity, without having to re-distribute the activity each time.

For example, you can change a couple of questions in an ongoing CSAT activity.

Versioning replaces the old republishing functionality and workflow. With the old republishing workflow, you could only make minor cosmetic updates to screens. More substantial changes required you to duplicate the activity and then distribute the duplicate, resulting in data that's scattered across multiple places.

With versioning, you can change anything in your activity. All of your data is available in the same place. Data for removed questions is never deleted. You can view everything in the same report.

Create a new version of a Touchpoint activity

  1. In the Activity Builder, on the toolbar, click the arrow beside the activity status.
  2. Click Create New Version.
Result: A new activity version is created based on the version you had open previously. The new version allows you to edit anything. You can make quick edits such as fixing typos or images, or make more extensive changes like updating respondent journeys and adding and deleting screens.
  3. When you are finished, choose a Save option:
    • Click Save and Exit to save your changes.
    • Click Publish if the activity is in-field and you want to make the new version live to participants.

Switch to another version

  1. In the Activity Builder, on the toolbar, click the arrow beside the activity distribution status.
  2. Select a version.

Look at the dots to the right of the version numbers for the versions' statuses:

    • A red dot indicates the version is inactive.
    • A green dot indicates the version is live.
    • A grey dot indicates the version is in draft mode.
Result: The Activity Builder opens the selected version. The version number in the toolbar updates to indicate the current version that's open.
  3. What you can do depends on the version's status:
    • If the version is inactive, click Restore to make it live, and then click Restore again to confirm.
    • If the version is live, you cannot edit it. However, you can switch to an inactive or draft version and make those live instead.
    • If the version is in draft mode, you can make any edits you want, and then save your changes or publish the version.

Manage Touchpoint activity versions

  • On the Touchpoint Dashboard, you can tell what a recently modified activity's latest version number is by looking for the pill-shaped version number label on the right-hand side of the listing.
  • In the Activities list, click the arrow beside a versioned activity listing to expand or collapse the listing.

The version number in the collapsed listing indicates the current/active/live version. Once expanded, you can see all the version numbers listed along with their publication dates and statuses.

  • To duplicate an activity version and use it as the basis for a new activity, in the Activities list, click the options menu on the right side, select Duplicate, and select the version number.
  • To update the live version of an activity to another version:
    • In the Activity Builder, switch to the desired version and click Save > Publish.
    • On the Distribute tab, click Update Version.

View versioned activity data in reporting

Reporting offers consolidated and separate data views.

  • On the Report tab, click the arrow beside the pill-shaped label indicating the currently selected versions, and select or clear the versions for which you want to display data.
