Create a Single Choice Image Question

A Single Choice Image Question asks participants to select one response from two or more image-based responses.

To make a Single Choice Image Question as engaging and visually appealing as possible, try:

  • Keeping question text concise.
  • Experimenting with the images and layout used for the response buttons.
  • Using a solid background color instead of an image. This can help reduce visual noise and keep the focus on the response images.
  • Selecting high-contrast text and button colors.
  1. On the Dashboard or the Activities page, click the activity name, and then click Build.
  2. Click Add Screen and select Image Question.
Result: A new Image Question appears in the Activity Content area.
  3. In the Screen Rules editor, check that the Multiple Choice toggle is turned off.
  4. Optional: Edit the screen name.

In the Activity Content area, click the edit button on the right and type a new name. This name is not visible to participants.

  5. Select or clear Screen Rules.
    Option Description
    Share Back Results

Show participants the question results after they provide an answer.

    Randomize Selections

This option randomizes the order in which responses are displayed. Responses are randomized every time the activity is presented to a participant. In reporting, responses are displayed in authored order.

You can also select or clear Pin Response. Pinned responses always stay in place according to the authored order while other responses are randomized. If you select this option, select the responses to pin.

    Make Response Optional

By default, question screens require a response. Select this option to allow participants to proceed to the next screen without answering.

You can also select or clear Show Skip.

    • When selected, a Skip Question control appears separately from the transition and submission button. Participants can click Skip Question to skip the question, or they can answer the question and then click the transition and submission button.
    • When cleared, only the transition and submission button appears. Participants click the transition and submission button to either skip the question or proceed.
Tip: Customize the Skip Question control's text and appearance by clicking it in the preview pane.
  6. Set the respondent journey.
This step is required for any screen that is not the last screen in the Activity Content area. You should also preview the respondent journey to ensure there are no errors.
  7. Type the question and format the question text.
  8. Add the response images.
    1. In the preview pane, click an add image button.
    2. Choose one of the uploaded images, or click Add Image to upload a new one.
    3. Click Select.
    4. Optional: To make adjustments to the image, in the top right corner of the image response button, click the options menu and select Edit image.

For more information, see Image Editor.

    5. Optional: To remove the response image, click the options menu and select Remove image.

The image is removed from the image response button. However, it still appears in the Images repository for the current activity.

    6. Optional: To change the response image, click the options menu and select Change image.

  15. Optional: Customize your screen elements.
  16. To preview the activity while still building it, on the activity toolbar, click Preview.

The preview opens in a new browser tab. Select a device type to simulate a screen size. Device type options include:

    • Phone
    • Tablet
    • Desktop

For multilingual activities, you can also select the preview language from the language menu.

Previewing the activity throughout the building process gives you a rough idea of how questions will display across different screen sizes, and lets you test the overall activity flow. However, the activity's appearance may vary on different devices and mobile browsers. Testing on a real device before publishing and distributing the activity is highly recommended.

  17. On the activity toolbar, click Save.
